Yiddish Vinkl: Dorion Liebgott

Yiddish Vinkl: Dorion Liebgott

Next Thursday at Noon (Thursday, April 6th, 2017)

$20 (includes a Jewish Style Buffet, drink, tax, gratuity and the program)

The Polin Museum: The History of the Polish Jews

Dorion Liebgott has been the curator of the Beth Tzedec Reuben and Helene Dennis Museum since 1992. Her responsibilities include the care and management of the Museum's collection and the Synagogue's artifacts and artwork. She has produced over 20 original exhibitions for Beth Tzedec, including "A Common Thread: A History of Toronto's Garment Industry" which was the winner of the City of Toronto Heritage Award in 2001. You may have heard her presentation about this exhibit at the Yiddish Vinkl.

An artist in her own right, Dorion has had several exhibitions as an individual and in group shows. She owned a gallery of artist-produced Judaica and was previously the director of Arts and Crafts for the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care.

In 2014, Dorion Liebgott travelled to Poland to attend the European Jewish Museums annual conference held in the Polin Museum in Warsaw shortly after the Core Exhibition opened. Her presentation will attempt to convey the immense scope of the museum and the impact of the visit had on her. She will use some of her own photos and the official introductory video of the Polin Museum featuring the Toronto-born curator and scholar Barbara Kirshenblatt Gimlet as our guide through the museum.

Yiddish Vinkl Toronto
Wander down old Spadina Avenue the street that author Matt Cohen once called the "cosmic spine" of the Toronto Jewish community. Learn about the history of the community, its social, religious, political life.

The Yiddish Vinkl is a warm, cozy, heymish group of people who are interested in subjects related to the Yiddish language and culture. Everyone is welcome. Our programs are conducted primarily in English. Knowledge of the Yiddish language is by no means necessary to have a great time!! Membership is free. We meet at the Free Times Cafe, where one can indulge in a delicious buffet lunch which includes Judy's delicious latkes and blintzes. It is a memorable time amongst friends new and old.
